On July 1st, on the occasion of the centenary celebration of GZUCM, Fu Miaoqing, Chairman of Wantaiyuan Classic Formula Health Industry Guangdong Co., Ltd., and Zhou Baishui, General Manager of the company, donated 100% equity of Zhongshan Wantaiyuan Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. to GZUCM. The ceremony was held in the office building of the College Town Campus of the university. This is an important measure for GZUCM to cultivate and develop new productivity of TCM, advance high technology to achieve industrialization, and contribute to local economic construction, jointly with its affiliated hospitals.
Chen Wenfeng, Secretary of the CPC GZUCM Committee, and Wang Wei, Deputy Secretary of the CPC GZUCM Committee and President of the university, attended the ceremony to witness the signing and presented donation commemorative plaques to Mr. Fu Miaoqing and Mr. Zhou Baishui respectively. Qiu Yahong, Deputy Secretary of the CPC GZUCM Committee, presided over the meeting, and Wang Hongbin, Vice President of the university, attended the event. Responsible comrades from Office of the CPC GZUCM Committee, President's Office, Science and Technology Department, Assets and Equipment Department, Finance Department, Alumni Association, and Asset Management Co., Ltd of the university, as well as relevant responsible comrades from Wantaiyuan Classic Formula Health Industry Guangdong Co., Ltd., participated in the ceremony.
On behalf of the university, Chen Wenfeng expressed his gratitude to Mr. Fu Miaoqing and Mr. Zhou Baishui for their donation. He said that in January 2023, Mr. Fu Miaoqing donated 1 million yuan to GZUCM in the name of Guangdong Jincheng Jinsu Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. to support the development of the university's education. This time, Mr. Fu Miaoqing and Mr. Zhou Baishui donated, gratuitously and unconditionally, 100% of their actual control and paid-in equity of the newly registered company -- Zhongshan Wantai Yuan Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. to GZUCM, which is a persistent pursuit and feeling of developing and revitalizing the cause of TCM, better serving economic and social development, and benefiting the people. It fully demonstrates the entrepreneurial spirit of taking responsibility and selfless dedication in the new era.
This donation of corporate equity represents a vivid example of innovative donation models, driving the inheritance, innovation, and development of TCM through "diversified financing." GZUCM will use the received corporate equity as a starting point, to leverage the ties and market-oriented advantages of joint-stock companies, integrating resources such as industries, talents, and capital in collaboration with affiliated hospitals, medical institutions, and industrial enterprises. The aim is to explore the co-construction and sharing of Guangdong Provincial Pilot Testing Platform for TCM --- Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine (Zhongshan) Science and Technology Industrial Park. Grounded on the unique strengths of TCM, this initiative will focus on the integration of government, industry, academia, and research, as well as the development of capabilities in transforming research outcomes, as the cornerstone for continued progress. GZUCM is firmly committed to fulfilling its mission in comprehensively advancing Guangdong's new round of building a strong province in TCM, a highland for TCM in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and a national demonstration zone for the inheritance, innovation, and development of TCM.
President Wang Wei emphasized the great significance of this donation to the university's promotion of innovative development in TCM preparations and the construction of platforms for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements in TCM. He outlined plans to continue highlighting the unique advantages and roles of TCM, relying on the medical resources of four directly affiliated hospitals, eight government-university cooperative hospitals, and nearly 30 non-directly affiliated hospitals, to build enabling platforms for the research and development of medical institution preparations, new TCM drugs research, health products, and patent transformation. Through collaborative innovation, the university will cultivate and develop new technologies, products, and business formats in TCM, stimulating innovative vitality.
Mr. Fu Miaoqing expressed that the ancient classic prescriptions are not only the essence of medical heritage, but also the source of upholding righteousness and fostering innovation in TCM in modern times. GZUCM, as one of the first batch of universities included in China’s “Double First-Class” Project, and a key university for the development of high-level education in Guangdong Province, has over 500 hospital preparations in its directly affiliated hospitals. The university also has national-level and provincial-level research platforms, such as the “National Innovation Platform for Industry-Education Integration in Medical Breakthroughs” and the “Guangdong Provincial Laboratory of Chinese Medicine”, which can fully empower the research, production, and transformation of TCM preparations. This donation is mainly to express gratitude to GZUCM for its contribution to the development in TCM industry, and it is hoped that the university and enterprises can jointly develop TCM lifestyle products like "TCM nourishing decoction of ancient classic prescriptions", to meet the public's health needs for "physical and mental nourishment."
After the ceremony, both parties also discussed the intention of further deepening strategic cooperation.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of GZUCM. We hope that more enterprises and alumni will support the construction and development of the university in various forms.
