Chen Wenfeng stated that the purpose of this visit was threefold: first, to trace roots. Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine originated from the Guangdong School of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1924. In an era of war and turmoil, the "Eight Industries and Three Associations" of the Guangdong-Hong Kong traditional Chinese medicine community raised funds to found the school, cultivating talents in traditional Chinese medicine with the spirit of "heal the country with medicine, enlighten the people with knowledge." For example, the Hong Kong Chinese Medicine Industry Association and the Baoshoutang of Hong Kong generously contributed funds in this endeavor. Mr. Wu Yaoting, the late founder of Baoshoutang, also served as the director of the university's Hong Kong office. With the support of various parties, the school persisted in educational activities in Hong Kong's Wan Chai and Happy Valley, Shaoguan, and other places during the Anti-Japanese War period. Second, to show gratitude. The achievements of the university today are attributed to the great attention paid to traditional Chinese medicine by the Party Central Committee and the State Council of China after the founding of the People's Republic of China. Especially since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, the Party Central Committee has placed traditional Chinese medicine in a more prominent position. General Secretary Xi Jinping has attached great importance to and shown great concern for the work of traditional Chinese medicine. The development of traditional Chinese medicine has ushered in an important period of opportunity with favorable cultural and geographical convenience, and popular support. Gratitude should also be extended to the predecessors in the traditional Chinese medicine community of Guangdong and Hong Kong for jointly shouldering the historical responsibility of inheriting and developing traditional Chinese medicine. The predecessors, experts, and alumni of the Hong Kong traditional Chinese medicine community have made great contributions to the development and construction of the university and to the development of the traditional Chinese medicine cause in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The university will continue to bear in mind its mission to educate for the Party and cultivate talents for the country, comprehensively implement the Party's education policy, implement the fundamental task of moral education, seize the strategic development opportunity of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, cooperate with all sectors of Hong Kong, promote the establishment of the "Belt and Road" Traditional Chinese Medicine Development Alliance, jointly promote the development of traditional Chinese medicine in Hong Kong, cultivate a group of top-notch talents in traditional Chinese medicine capable of shouldering the great responsibility of building a strong nation. Third, forging ahead. Traditional Chinese medicine has been rejuvenated for thousands of years. At present, the prospects for the revitalization and development of traditional Chinese medicine are extremely bright. Standing at a new starting point in its century-long history, the university is more determined and confident in its high-quality development. Hong Kong's first government-funded traditional Chinese medicine hospital will open in 2025. The university's Second Affiliated Hospital (Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine) and the Hong Kong Chinese Medicine Hospital will carry out extensive and in-depth "cooperation between hospitals," opening a new chapter in the development of the traditional Chinese medicine industry in Hong Kong. The university hopes to continue to deepen cooperation with relevant associations (associations, schools) in the Hong Kong traditional Chinese medicine industry, serve and benefit the people of Hong Kong, jointly promote the industrialization, modernization, and internationalization of traditional Chinese medicine, contribute to the high-quality development of the traditional Chinese medicine highland in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and tell the story of traditional Chinese medicine and the beautiful picture of Hong Kong and Macao to the world.
