On March 21, Professor Tian Gang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the person in charge of the establishment of the Great Bay University, and also an internationally renowned mathematician, visited our university for exchange along with his delegation. Wang Wei, Deputy Secretary of the CPC GZUCM Committee and also President of the University, and Liu Zhongqiu, Vice President, attended the reception.
At the symposium, Wang Wei warmly welcomed Academician Tian Gang and his delegation, and introduced the basic situation of our university and its affiliated hospitals to them. He emphasized that as a century-old university with a profound historical background, our university has always been committed to inheritance, innovation, and development of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), nurturing a large number of outstanding TCM talents.
Wang Wei pointed out that with the rapid development of big data and artificial intelligence technology, both Beijing University and the Great Bay University (preparatory) have significant research advantages in this field. He expected that by giving full play to their respective professional strengths and sharing their resources and complementary advantages, the three universities would open up new tracks in TCM research. With a focus on the cross-application research of TCM, big data and artificial intelligence, they would explore the application of advanced technology in aspects of TCM such as clinical practice, prescription research and development, as well as education and inheritance.
Tian Gang agreed with this. He believed that in the era of rapid development in science and technology, big data and artificial intelligence technology demonstrated great potential in various fields. He said that in order to speed up TCM innovation and development, the Great Bay University (preparatory) would be willing to work with Beiing University and Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine to jointly seek the deep integration of TCM, big data and artificial intelligence, and explore the infinite possibilities of the combination of TCM and modern science technology, contributing more wisdom and strength to the cause of human health. Such cooperation will not only help enhance TCM’s international competitiveness, but also inject new vitality into TCM, thus promoting its greater breakthroughs and development with the help of modern science and technology.
At the symposium, the participants conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on how to use artificial intelligence and big data to empower TCM research so as to promote inheritance, innovation, and development of TCM, and they reached preliminary consensus on jointly building a TCM big data research center. This symposium opened up new ideas for our university to promote research on intelligence of TCM. Moreover, it provided strong support for our university to seize opportunities on the occasion of its centennial celebrations to actively respond to and serve the country’s major strategic needs, and also to further strengthen self-improvement so as to develop new quality productive forces of TCM and produce landmark research results, promoting high-quality development of the university.
The heads of relevant departments from both sides were present at the symposium.
