On the morning of March 21, our university held a seminar on the construction of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) big data platform, in order to further advance the empowerment of TCM research and industrialization with artificial intelligence and big data, and to explore the construction of a TCM big data platform by leveraging the advantageous resources of Guangdong Province to promote inheritance, innovation, and development of TCM. The seminar was presided over by President Wang Wei, and was attended by experts from outside the university including Li Jiangbin, Deputy Director of Monitoring and Statisticcal Research Center.NATCM, Li Honglin, Deputy Director of Lin Gang Laboratory, Zeng Xiaoqian, Executive Deputy Dean of the West China Biomedical Big Data Research Institute of Sichuan University, Zhao Yi, researcher at the Institute of Computing Technology of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Meanwhile, it was also attended by representatives of our university and its affiliated hospitals, such as Li Hui, Dean of School of Basic Medicine, Zhao Wenguang, Dean of School of Medical Information Engineering, Chen Qinqun, Director of the Modern Education Technology Center, Professor Li Chun from School of Pharmacy, Gao Jie, Head of the Research Department of the First Affiliated Hospital, Li Rong, Director of the Cardiovascular Department of the First Affiliated Hospital, Wang Lei, Deputy Director of the Medical Affairs Department of the Second Affiliated Hospital, and Zhang Tianfeng, Secretary of the CPC Committee of Shenzhen Hospital.
At the beginning of the meeting, President Wang Wei introduced the basic situation of our university and its affiliated hospitals, as well as the natural advantages of Guangdong Province in building a TCM big data platform. He emphasized that by leveraging big data technology, we could transform these advantages into technological, educational, and even economic resources. He noted that the construction of a TCM big data platform is promising, as it is an important way to promote the modernization and internationalization of TCM, and also an important means of improving the quality and efficiency of TCM service. Subsequently, Professor Lai Wei from the School of Medical Information Engineering made a detailed report on the background and the scheme of the platform construction, the work foundation and excellent cases in this field. During the discussion session, experts provided their opinions and suggestions for the platform construction, covering various aspects such as platform positioning, institutional construction, computing power layout, application scenarios, funding, and construction standards. At the end of the meeting, President Wang Wei expressed his gratitude to all the experts and said that the construction of a TCM big data platform would be further promoted in the future based on their suggestions.
The successful holding of this seminar has pointed out the direction for our university to advance the construction of a TCM big data center. In the next step, with careful planning and by strengthening communication and coordination with all parties, the university will further push for the improvement of data management and sharing mechanisms, and carry out research on achieving breakthroughs in core technologies based on TCM big data, transforming innovative results and innovating application models, with the hope of making landmark achievements as soon as possible and contributing to the construction of “Double First-Class” and high-level universities.
