On the afternoon of January 5, 2024, the inaugural meeting of the Foshan Alumni Association (Liaison Station) of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine (GZUCM) was held in Chancheng District, Foshan City. Wang Wei, Deputy Secretary of the CPC GZUCM Committee and President of the university, and Qiu Yahong, Deputy Secretary of the CPC GZUCM Committee, attended the event. Representatives of more than 130 alumni from Foshan who graduated from 1957 to the present also attended the meeting.

Wang Wei warmly congratulated the establishment of the Foshan Alumni Association (Liaison Station). He expressed that seeing the three generations of the old, the middle-aged and the young of Foshan alumni gathered together, he deeply felt their deep affection for the alma mater. The Foshan alumni of GZUCM are the mainstay in the field of traditional Chinese medicine, which not only promotes the economic and social development of Foshan, safeguards the life and health of the people of Foshan, but also wins wide praise for the alma mater, enhances the social influence and reputation of the alma mater, and demonstrates the spirit of the alma mater’s motto of “enriching morality and learning, serving the world with sincerity” with practical actions.
Wang Wei reviewed the history of the university since 1924, and generations of predecessors from GZUCM have bravely carried the banner of developing traditional Chinese medicine, who have not only made indelible contributions to the inheritance and development of traditional Chinese medicine, but also nurtured generations of traditional Chinese medicine talents for Lingnan area (South China) and the whole country. Wang Wei introduced the fruitful achievements made by the university in the construction of “double first-class” and high-level universities and national key laboratories in recent years, and stated that the university would strongly support the scientific research and academic improvement of alumni, thereby assisting in their career development. He hoped that the Foshan Alumni Association (Liaison Station) would establish a strong sense of service, standardize the construction of the alumni association, provide services and support for alumni, take the initiative to shoulder the responsibility of communication and liaison between alumni and the alma mater and between alumni, organize diverse activities, expand the “circle of friends”, realize resource sharing and common growth, and guide alumni to actively participate in the construction of the university.

Qiu Yahong announced the list of members of the first council of the Foshan Alumni Association (Liaison Station) and presented a plaque to the Foshan Alumni Association (Liaison Station), encouraging Foshan alumni to work together to build the Foshan Alumni Association (Liaison Station) into a benchmark for the local alumni association of GZUCM.
Wang Wei and Qiu Yahong awarded letters of appointment to the members of the first council, and sincerely invited Foshan alumni to participate in various activities for the centenary celebration of the alma mater.

Wu Suzhen, the first president of the Foshan Alumni Association, expressed gratitude for the training of the university and the support of Foshan alumni. She pledged to unite alumni, build a good platform for the association on the basis of communication and sharing, enhance the connection between alumni, and between alumni and the alma mater with the bond of contact, and create more opportunities for mutual support and common development with the goal of achieving success for alumni.
