Achieving Global Prestige: GZUCM’s Neuroscience and Behavioral Science Discipline Ranks Top 1% in ESI

The latest statistics from the Essential Science Indicators (ESI), released in January 2024 (data updated as of January 11, 2024, covering the period from January 1, 2013, to August 31, 2023), reveal a significant milestone for the university’s “Neuroscience and Behavioral Science” discipline, placing it within the top 1% globally. This accomplishment follows preceding achievements in disciplines such as “Clinical Medicine”, “Pharmacology and Toxicology”, “Chemistry”, “Biology and Biochemistry”, “Agricultural Science”, and “Molecular Biology and Genetics”, solidifying our university’s position as a leader in academic excellence. Notably, GZUCM is the first traditional Chinese medicine university to have seven disciplines within the top 1% of ESI rankings.

In 2023, the university received recognition for 9 high-level traditional Chinese medicine key disciplines by the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The 2023 Ranking of Soft Science Disciplines affirmed the university’s consistent presence in the top three for “Traditional Chinese Medicine” and witnessed a rise in “Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine”. Furthermore, since 2023, the university has seen five additional disciplines enter the top 1% globally, positioning us at the forefront among similar universities nationwide.

Since the second round of the “Double First-Class” initiative and the development ofhigh-quality university, the university has intensified its focus on discipline construction. By prioritizing the development of first-class disciplines in Traditional Chinese Medicine, the university has leveraged its strengths in Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine and Chinese Materia Medica to foster comprehensive advancements in the academic landscape. The universityaims at propelling the university’s high-quality development and achieving the goal of establishing a world-class university with Chinese characteristics in anticipation of the centenary celebration.
